137- Lone Fir Cemetery – Portland, OR

Play

Episode 137, The Lone Fir Cemetery in Portland, OR. Brett and Harley are checking out this WEIRD city and all of the oddities we can find. Portland is modern and friendly, but it is also ODD and that is why we like it. Whether you are on a full-blown investi-cation or you are just para-curious, Portland has tons to keep you busy. If you are not into the strange, you can camp, hike, fish, ski, hit the beach or just go nutty trying every craft beer around.

Lone Fir Cemetery was created in 1854, and with over 25,000 permanent residents, there is quite a lot of history and built up ectoplasm. National Geographic listed it as one of the top cemeteries to visit in the whole world. From scary history to scary ghost stories, you may want to go in the day just to be safe.

If you aren’t into ghosts, maybe magic is up your alley. Mystic District is one city block in Portland with three magical shops to keep you busy. From crystals to candles and tarot to tea leaves, this place sounds like a great place to fill up your cauldrons or to even buy a cauldron if you are just starting. Diagon Alley is just an alley, this place is a whole city block!

When you are ready to refuel, you should check out the oldest restaurant in Portland. Huber’s was established in 1879. Their Spanish coffee presentation is world renowned, they have ridiculously good food and the ambiance is unique. Don’t listen to Benji S., part time yelper.

114 – The Curse of the Franklin Castle – Cleveland, OH

Play

We visited Cleveland Ohio back in December for an Odd Spot on the A Christmas Story house and Harley and Brett had to return because Cleveland has so much more going on.

We start with the curse of Franklin Castle. There are a lot of rumors of death and dismemberment around this 1800s Victorian home. We discuss the history and the ghosts that have apparently moved into the house.

Since we are back in town, we couldn’t pass up a short stop to the Buckland Museum of Witchcraft and Magic. This creepy little museum is a must see for a variety of reasons….we think they have the Necronomicon in the back.

TableTop Board Game Café seems like it is right up our Diagon Alley. With over a thousand board games and food like their Savory Gravory Waffles…..waffles and sausage gravy….our arteries will be sweating for sure.

Brett went rogue with The Top 5, and he broke the whole damn show.

106 – Haunted Green-Wood Cemetery – Brooklyn, NY

Play

On this week’s episode, Brett and Amy get their subway passes out to explore one of the biggest tourist attractions during the last turn of the century and apparently one of the biggest spectral tourist attractions today.

Welcome to Brooklyn, NY and the Haunted Green-Wood Cemetery. With a population in the millions and annual deaths of about 50,000, you may wonder where do they go(literally and figuratively), and we have some answers.

This oddity is spooky, but don’t let that sway you from this … it’s part of the five bouroughs.

If you want to get a bird’s eye view of the area, may we suggest Deno’s Wonder Wheel? This iconic NYC Landmark is almost a hundred yeats old and has a PERFECT safety record.

Amy explains why she is too good to eat Katz’s Deli. You know, the 150 year old shining example of a classic Jewish deli?

If you are a pinball wizard, there may be some incriminating entries on this week’s TOP 5.
