OS – Guardian Lions of Route 66 – Amboy, CA

Play

Join Amy and Brett for a trip along Route 66. Four miles east of Roy’s Motel and Café sign, you can see two large white statues. These solid marble Chinese guardian lions, are spaced a quarter-mile apart in the empty desert.

How did these marble beasts end up here?

These “foo dogs” or Chinese guardian lions are standing about five feet high and elevated on pedestals.
They were first sighted in 2013, and nobody has ever claimed responsibility.

101 – Blythe Intaglios – Blythe, CA

Play

Brett and Harley are traveling back to the west coast, to get a bird’s eye view of an oddity that Giorgio Tsoukalos would flip his lid to visit. Welcome to Blythe, CA, home of the mysterious Blythe Intaglios.

The story of the Blythe Intaglios starts several thousand years ago….or in a galaxy far, far away. The mysterious builders of these gigantic geoglyphs are still an unknown. Don’t you worry, we have more than a theory or two and we are here to share.

Aside from being home to one mystical oddity, Blythe California is known as the center of the water sport universe and is one of the most beautiful stretches of California desert that you can find.

We also found a gem of a spot for any rock-hound. The Hauser Geode Beds are famous for the rich and varied gem filled geodes, hiking camping and family fun.

With a rebel yell, The Travel Oddities Podcast cried, more, more, more…BBQ. Rebel BBQ is the embodiment of everything a restaurant should be and they have a BLT that tears me up just writing this.

The Top 5 from California includes several break-downs by Brett and Harley, but we were setup by Amy. …so really listen to the show or the tree-huggers win!

98 – Haunted Ortega Highway – Lake Elsinore, CA

Play

Happy Monday, Odd Squad! On this super spooky episode of the Travel Oddities Podcast, Brett and Harley have partially recovered from an electrically charged ESP test just in time for a trip down the Haunted Ortega Highway in Lake Elsinore, California.

Highway 74 or the Haunted Ortega Highway has claims of hauntings and many other odd sightings, and since it has seen more than its fair share of death, it’s no wonder why it is considered one of the most haunted places in California. From phantom clowns to crazed gnomes to the truly unspeakable, this stretch of road has something for every paranormal thrill seeker.

If you find that you are brave enough to take this highway, the spoils are more than worth the trip. Lake Elsinore, CA is a beautiful resort town nestled in the Santa Ana Mountains with breathtaking views and activities for every taste.

If you need some assistance to make it past the paranormal, the boys share the recipe for a witch’s bottle. We cannot guarantee the effectiveness, but we can guarantee it is really gross.

Road trips, even terrify road trips on haunted highways are our jam, but if you want to skip that piece, maybe you can “jump” past the obstacles. Skydive Elsinore is world renown of its thermals…so dive on in.

If breakfast all day is more your speed, we have you covered. The Lookout Roadhouse has been voted the best breakfast in town, and the patio offers mountain top views that will blow you away.

Listen to the show already, I am sick of typing!
