118 – The Museum of Natural History – Phoenix, AZ

Play

On this week’s episode, Harley and Brett have to brave the heat to explore a beautiful desert city, Phoenix, AZ.

Phoenix is a thriving desert metropolis, the fifth most populous city in the country and is steeped in Native history.

We have a great talk with Katie Mullaly and J. Patrick Ohlde about The Museum of Natural History in Phoenix. Katie and Patrick are prolific Paranormal Authors and Investigators.

What is Sensory Replication and how does it apply to the field of the paranormal?

Does the museum come to life at night?

Why would a demon be stuck in a nightstand?

Who were the Hohokam people? Where did they go? Should we do a full show?

If you are tired of chasing ghosts through priceless historical artifacts, may we suggest Curious Nature? This is a science and natural history emporium with an emphasis on the strange and fantastical….ohhh and you can buy creepy taxidermy stuff.

Chino Bandido Takee Outee may have the strangest coolest menu ever. #travelodditiesapproved

116 – Windigo Lake – Ten Lake Township, MN

Play

Amy, Brett, Matt and Harley just got back from the Ozark Mountains UFO conference. More to come on that topic. On this week’s episode, Harley and Brett get to explore the beautiful Ten Lake Township in Minnesota. You can expect that Brett will use his MinneSOOOtah accent.

We discuss the Wendigo at Windigo Lake in the Chippewa National Forest. Is the Wendigo a physical being or a spectre? Is it Wendigo or Windigo? We don’t know the answer to these questions, so we brought in an expert. Chad Lewis, prolific author and Legend Tripper and honorary Travel Oddities Crew joins us to discuss this, the creepiest of cryptid/ghost things….

This oddity is spooky, but not as scary as traversing this area in the winter….dunna’ do eh.

Chippewa National Forest has twenty-three developed campgrounds, 100 back-country sites, 160 miles of hiking trails, 900 miles of river and three of the largest lakes in the state.

Brett REALLY likes travel..

No Episode of the Travel Oddities Podcast would be complete without a place to grab a bite.
Minnesota Nice Cafe is a family owned and operated cafe located in Bemidji, with home cooked meals just like Grandma used to make….and apparently Grandma’s specialty is the Beaver Tail Burger.

The segment formally known as the Top 5 drove away in a little red corvette.

115 – Huggin’ Molly – Abbeville, AL

Play

On this week’s episode, Harley and Brett fight the spring snow to explore Abbeville, Alabama, you know….the Yellowhammer State, the “Heart of Dixie” or the “CottonState”.

We discuss a creepy haunting, phantom, cryptid or something called Huggin’ Molly. How scary can it be with a name like Huggin’ Molly?

This oddity may or may not scare you, but don’t let that keep you from traveling here. The town is like a time-capsule.

The Statue of Leroy Brown, the famous fish? Yes we are telling fish stories and ours is bigger than yours.

Brett spends some time explaining his theories on hugs and he is offering free hugs from the back of his panel van. So come one, come all…

No Episode of the Travel Oddities Podcast would be complete without a place to grab a bite. Huggin’ Molly’s restaurant obviously has been listening to our show. They have the lore and they built a store! If you run into the propriators…..tell them we accept cash or card.

114 – The Curse of the Franklin Castle – Cleveland, OH

Play

We visited Cleveland Ohio back in December for an Odd Spot on the A Christmas Story house and Harley and Brett had to return because Cleveland has so much more going on.

We start with the curse of Franklin Castle. There are a lot of rumors of death and dismemberment around this 1800s Victorian home. We discuss the history and the ghosts that have apparently moved into the house.

Since we are back in town, we couldn’t pass up a short stop to the Buckland Museum of Witchcraft and Magic. This creepy little museum is a must see for a variety of reasons….we think they have the Necronomicon in the back.

TableTop Board Game Café seems like it is right up our Diagon Alley. With over a thousand board games and food like their Savory Gravory Waffles…..waffles and sausage gravy….our arteries will be sweating for sure.

Brett went rogue with The Top 5, and he broke the whole damn show.

Play

Harley has come down from the mountain top and joined Brett for a trip to The Natural State.

As location coordinator for the movie, The Trial of David O. Dodd, she was instrumental in acquiring historic locations and props.

109 – Lalaurie Mansion – New Orleans, LA

Play

On this week’s episode, Harley and Brett are gearing up for Mardi Gras in the most unique city in America, New Orleans, Louisiana.

Harley is a year older and apparently the light is fading fast…you know, because he is 44.

We have a great interview with Lyn Gibson, aka The Twisted Southern Horror Queen about Madame Lalaurie and the Lalaurie Mansion. Madame Lalaurie might have been the sickest person alive at the time.

New Orleans is one of the world’s most fascinating cities – it’s home to a truly unique melting pot of cultures, and we explore some of the more unusual aspects.

We found a way to get a real behind-the-scenes look at New Orleans Mardi Gras at Mardi Gras World.

Harley and Brett never stop scouring a town until we find something awesome to eat…and we found the fat dude at BigCheezy at Henry’s uptown Bar. This place takes the grilled cheese to a whole new level.

The Travel Oddities Top Five is full of music and good times, just like New Orleans, LA.

108 – The Haunted Bush House Inn – Index WA

Play

On this week’s episode, Harley and Brett get “high” into the mountains to explore one of the most beautiful places in the US, Index, WA.

We discuss the The Haunted Bush House. This is not a reference to a haunted marijuana grow house and we do not believe that it is haunted by George W.

This oddity is spooky, but don’t let that sway you from this gorgeous wildlife mountains.

The views are breathtaking and the outdoorsy fun is dialed up to eleven, and we have a Travel Oddities first with the other activity.

No Episode of the Travel Oddities Podcast would be complete without a place to grab a bite, and we found the COOLEST place ever. Don’t miss this restaurant….Jesus is making the chicken!

106 – Haunted Green-Wood Cemetery – Brooklyn, NY

Play

On this week’s episode, Brett and Amy get their subway passes out to explore one of the biggest tourist attractions during the last turn of the century and apparently one of the biggest spectral tourist attractions today.

Welcome to Brooklyn, NY and the Haunted Green-Wood Cemetery. With a population in the millions and annual deaths of about 50,000, you may wonder where do they go(literally and figuratively), and we have some answers.

This oddity is spooky, but don’t let that sway you from this … it’s part of the five bouroughs.

If you want to get a bird’s eye view of the area, may we suggest Deno’s Wonder Wheel? This iconic NYC Landmark is almost a hundred yeats old and has a PERFECT safety record.

Amy explains why she is too good to eat Katz’s Deli. You know, the 150 year old shining example of a classic Jewish deli?

If you are a pinball wizard, there may be some incriminating entries on this week’s TOP 5.

105 – Specters of Bear Creek Swamp – Prattville AL

Play

Harley and Amy are traveling to swamp country, to soak in an oddity that has all the makings of a terrifying thrill ride. Welcome to Prattville, AL, home of the Specters of Bear Creek Swamp.

The phenomenon in this area go way back into the past and there is something for everybody. From ghosts to bigfoot and chupacabra to haunted dolls…this place really has it all.

There is definitley some weirdness in the swamps her, but Prattville is older than the state of Alabama and there are activities for any taste. This is a road trip that you have to make.

If you don’t want to trudge through the swamp, you could always take part in their annual 4th of July cardboard boat race.

The Travel Oddities Podcast restaurant pick is a place called Fat Boy’s BBQ Ranch because Amy’s diet has given her a one-=track-appetite.

The Top 5…Did you know that Alabama has a state biscuit? Do they have state gravy? Listen to the show already!
